Chappy , or anyone do you think I should switch out the Air Force survival knife for the Utica fixed we got in the camp chef mission ? Only reason I didn't was there were 2 ferro rods in the fire kit already, thought it would be a waste as about any part of this will not be unless it's SHTF
That’s a tough question, I’ve never owned the Utica, but I hear good things about it, but I have owned one of the Air Force survival knifes and that thing was an amazing knife, I beat the shit out of that thing and it kept coming back for more, if the one in the kit was a newer one I’d tell you to swap them out, because I‘ve seen some not so good reviews on the newer ones. Without owning the Utica I can only tell you what I’ve heard and I’ve heard good things about the knife, but if I recall correctly mj33 had some issues with the scales on his loosening on him, plus I’ve heard there is a lot of rattle from the sheath, which is something that worries some people but I’m not one of them, so really you can’t go wrong with either in my opinion, I would say keep the one you’re most likely to use. To me the ferro rod isn’t an issue you can never have to many ways to start a fire.
Yep, sheath rattle has been an issue almost across the board. If the knife is in a pack it likely isn’t an issue, tearing it and keeping quiet could present an issue.
